The Slovenian-Austrian mezzo-soprano Monika Bohinec has been an ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera since September 2011, where she quickly made a name for herself, among others as a Verdi and Wagner specialist.<\/p>\n

In 2025\/2026, Monika Bohinec will perform at the Vienna State Opera in the roles of Fenena (Verdi \/ Nabucco), Mrs.Quickly (Verdi \/ Falstaff), Je\u017eibaba (Dvo\u0159ak \/ Rusalka), Herodias (R.Strauss \/ Salome), Frugola (Puccini \/ Il Tabarro), Marta (Tchaikovsky \/ Iolanta)\u2026..<\/span><\/p>\n

Her guest appearances in 2025\/26 will take her to the Berliner Philharmonie, where she will sing Mezzosoprano-Solo in G.Verdis Requiem, under the baton of Oksana Lyniv. She will be heard in the role of Annina in R.Strau\u00df\u2019s opera \u00a0\u201cDer Rosenkavalier\u201d at the Baden-Baden Festival (Pfingstfestspiele) and in her homeland, at the Ljubljana Opera, she will perform the role of \u00a0Brang\u00e4ne in Wagners opera \u201cTristan und Isolde\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Further roles she performed at the Vienna State Opera include Eboli (Verdi \/ Don Carlos), Azucena (Verdi \/ Il Trovatore), Mrs. Quickly (Verdi \/ Falstaff), Ulrica (Verdi \/ Un Ballo in Maschera), Fenena (Verdi \/ Nabucco), Maddalena (Verdi \/ Rigoletto), Sara di Nottingham (Donizetti \/ Roberto Devereux), Je\u017eibaba (Dvo\u0159\u00e1k \/ Rusalka), Erda (Wagner \/ Das Rheingold, Siegfried), Fricka (Wagner \/ Das Rheingold, Die Walk\u00fcre), Waltraute (Wagner \/ G\u00f6tterd\u00e4mmerung), Magdalene (Wagner \/ Die Meistersinger), Polina and Daphnis (Tchaikovsky \/ Pique Dame), Knusperhexe (Humperdinck \/ H\u00e4nsel und Gretel), Alto Solo (Mahler \/ Von der Liebe Tod), Auntie (Britten \/ Peter Grimes), Gora (Reimann \/ Medea), Herodias (R.Strauss\/Salome)\u2026
\nShe sang the roles of Foreign Princess (Dvo\u0159\u00e1k \/ Rusalka) and the role of Cassandre (Berlioz \/ Les Troyens) in highly acclaimed Vienna State Opera premieres.<\/p>\n

She has collaborated among others with conductors Christian Thielemann, Sir Simon Rattle, Franz Welser – M\u00f6st, Philippe Jordan, Adam Fischer, Valery Gergiev, Marco Armiliato, Sir Jeffrey Tate, Ivor Bolton, Peter Schneider, Daniele Gatti, Simone Young, Paolo Carignani, Giampaolo Bisanti.<\/p>\n

Guest engagements in recent seasons have sent Monika Bohinec to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Semperoper Dresden, the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, the Oper Frankfurt, the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Staatstheater am G\u00e4rtnerplatz in Munich, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Salzburg Festival, the St.Margarethen Festival\u2026<\/p>\n

Her international guest appearances include roles such as Amneris (Verdi \/ Aida), Azucena (Verdi \/ Il Trovatore), Carmen (Bizet \/ Carmen), Maddalena (Verdi \/ Rigoletto), Ortrud (Wagner \/ Lohengrin), Fricka (Wagner \/ Das Rheingold and Die Walk\u00fcre), Brang\u00e4ne (Wagner \/ Tristan und Isolde), Sara di Nottingham (Donizetti \/ Roberto Devereux), Klyt\u00e4mnestra (R.Strau\u00df \/ Elektra), La Principessa di Bouillon \u00a0(Cilea \/ Adriana Lecouvreur), Giulietta (Offenbach \/ Les Contes d\u2019Hoffmann), Laura and La Cieca (Ponchielli \/ La Gioconda), Ulrica (Verdi \/ Un Ballo in Maschera), Czipra (J.Strauss \/ Der Zigeunerbaron), Kontschakowna (Borodin \/ Prince Igor) and Marina (Mussorgsky \/ Boris Godunow)\u2026<\/p>\n

In 2006, while studying at the Salzburg Mozarteum and at the\u00a0University of Musik and Performing Arts in Vienna with Prof. Claudia Visca, she made her operatic debut as Clarissa (Prokofiev: The Love for the Three Oranges) at the Slovenian State Opera.
\nAfter her graduation in 2008, Monika Bohinec joined the soloist ensemble of the National Theatre in Mannheim (in Germany) between 2009 and 2011.<\/p>\n

As a song and concert interpreter, Monika Bohinec has appeared in recital at Vienna\u2019s Musikverein. Furthermore, she performed in the traditional New Year\u2019s concert at the Wiener Konzerthaus. Her most recent appearances include the mezzo-soprano solos in Rossini\u2019s Stabat Mater in Lille.<\/p>\n

Monika Bohinec has performed at renowned concert halls around the world, including the Wiener Musikverein in Vienna, Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna, Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n

Monika Bohinec can be heard on the entire recording of Wagner\u2019s Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Vienna State Opera under the baton of Christian Thielemann (Deutsche Grammophon),\u00a0as well as on the recording of Tchaikovsky\u2019s Iolanta (Deutsche Grammophon) alongside Anna Netrebko.
